Airport HZJ75

Used as a service vehicle at an Australian coastal airport, this 1991 HZJ75 Landcruiser came to the states with only 18,000km.

It immediately received a complete tune-up with new filters/fluids, a timing belt kit and a 1HD-T Turbo kit to get it up hills. Pounds of Australian wiring needed to be removed, once added for airport equipment and exterior lights. An ARB Safari Snorkel is installed for greater airflow to the turbo.

A complete game-changer for a Troopy - an Alucab Hercules conversion was installed. Nibblers are used to cut the original thin sheet metal off the truck. Prepping for installation includes sanding and coating with POR-15 rust prevention followed by bracket installation.

In the cabin, original bench seats were replaced to ease back strains on long drives. The best orthopedic seats on the market: Scheel-man Vario are equipped with Heat and 11way adjustability. The color is specific to match the Toyota Brown interior common in 60/70 series trucks.

While the long wheelbase “Troopy” was meant for extended overland travel, there will be plenty of times a locking differential will come in handy. The ARB Dual Compressor powers an Airlocker in the front/rear differentials in addition to an onboard air system for running air tools, filling tires and most convenient: blowing dust out of the vehicle.

Installing lockers involves removing both Birfield axles so a complete hub rebuild was included “while we were in there”.

Before delivery to the customer one last task was necessary. Low miles preserved the vehicles body and engine, however sitting caused a few holes in the front floorboards - a common issue on most Australian land cruisers over 25 years old. An OEM replacement floorpan was sourced and grafted into the existing floor. Reinforcements were added to weak points common on 70 series followed with the application of rust inhibitor and paint. Finally, a rust preventative sound deadener was added to finish the floor.
