Toyota’s fully mechanical 1HD-T Engine was sourced from an HDJ81. Completely serviced with water pump, timing belt, tensioner, seals, gaskets. Turbo replaced with a G-Turbo Grunter built to spool fast. This keeps EGT temperature low - critical on the Toyota diesels. Bottom End Bearings were replaced with ACL bearings along with new stretch bolts, a known factory flaw on 1HD-T engines. Intake and Exhaust manifolds ceramic/powdercoated and all hoses, lines, sensors replaced with new OEM. Compression tested at 450-460 across the board.
Anything showing wear was replaced with new OEM or upgraded aftermarket. Hinges, locks, latches, handles, interior plastics, lights, electronics, etc. New seats were sourced from a new body VDJ78. Rubber floors restored with factory replacements along w/new insulation.
Lizard Skin Ceramic sound deadening and heat insulation sprayed into doors, rear cavities, floors keeps noise and heat at a minimum.
A must for a Troopy - the Alucab Hercules conversion was installed. Besides providing an upstairs penthouse tent, the conversion doubles interior room and adds strength to a tin-can factory roof. Nibblers are used to cut the original thin sheet metal off the truck. Prepping for installation includes sanding and coating with POR-15 rust prevention followed by bracket installation. A final coat of Sikaflex glue adheres the top to the body, tightened by the interior brackets.
In addition to our standard front Hub Service, an extensive rebuild was performed at the front axle including all new hardware, steering components, tie rods, brake calipers and stainless lines. New Aisin locking hubs are a final touch.
Front/Rear Drivelines also received a complete rebuild with new U-Joints and balancing.
Upgrades at the axles include ARB Locking Differentials. Rear drum brakes have been replaced with a Disc conversion to help stopping power.
An absolute massive 300MM Clutch (Izusu NPR Spec) was sourced to fit between the 1HD-T and H55f. Oversized to handle the power of the 1HDT, this is substantial upgrade in gripping power from the factory 1HZ clutch kit. Transfer case was stripped and overhauled with all new bearings, seals and a Terrain Tamer one piece output gear - a fix to a factory split-case weakness.
Tattered suspension pieced together over the past 2 decades was replaced by a 2” kit from Dobinson Australia complete with new leaf springs, twin-tube shocks, bushings, u-bolts, grease-able shackles and pins. A steering stabilizer between tie rods finishes the kit.
Once into the dash, we found the original vehicle wiring harness insufficient - 20 years of modifications with countless repairs one could only consider “bush fixes”.
A factory replacement was sourced, completely gone through and installed within the Troopy walls. Every wire checked and re-loomed to fit this specific build.
Explore Glazing pop-out windows were installed at the rear, with front replacement sliders to match the look. Aluminum frames with 4mm strengthened glass, these water/dustproof units are a major upgrade over factory.
Duck Canvas covers replace the factory cardboard interior panels allowing easy access to cargo space along with more durability. A Frontrunner dropdown camp table is installed at the rear door.
